processing
Processing only takes place in the "thermal window" with the TWO separate reactions: bonding and shrinking! At high temperatures the shrinking and melting are released! The Series "LS" requires a longer time, not a higher temperature than the Series "LLS"!
- To cover: first the underside. Trim the AS-Film leaving a small excess, remove the safety film on the output - leading edge and finally on the sides without applying pressure with the iron. Iron the AS-Film on the fin-rip wings pressing the iron on the fin rip wings, then shrink with the hot air dryer. Trim the AS-Film from the leading edge and on the edges and, iron the small excesses. Now repeat the process on the upper side. Modification for the full filled wings: during the shrinking process press on the AS-Film with a foam material roller (seam roller for wallpapering) or cloth. Alternatively it is possible to wrap the leading edge and seal at the output. Always work from the edge to the end with a (Teflon) coated or cotton covered controllable thermal iron at 110º C (232° F) for LLS-T and 150º C (302° F) for LS with less heat than on shrinking. Never let the metal come into contact with the warm film! Leave open a small end split to allow the escape of the enclosed air. Folds shrink away. Heat is absorbed into the background by the hot air drying; no background e.g. fin-rip wings - less heat. Just slightly stretch AS-Film; it stretches itself on shrinking! Remaining white layers on trimmed corners can be cleaned with acetone!
- Repairs: Deformations (dents) e.g. fin-rip parts can be repaired by shrinking with a hot air dryer. The sealing on of replacement pieces covers holes; ideally within a section.
- Coating: is only possible by the use of 2 component acrylic based coatings - usually car coatings - e.g. ICI Autocolor, Sikkens, Lesonal etc.). Procedure: Clean the upper surface with acetone, alcohol, spirit or universal thinner. Leave to dry, put on the 2 component coating and leave to harden. Close the layers against swelling with aviation fuel.
